To ensure provisional patent applications are filed appropriately and in a timely manner, it is paramount for the inventor to provide OTL with a written, enabling description of the technology and submit it, along with a completed invention disclosure form, to our office two business days in advance of any public disclosure or statutory deadline.  Invention disclosures submitted less than two business days prior to any deadline, submission of incomplete invention disclosures, or inclusion of  non-enabling descriptions may result in inadequate or untimely provisional patent applications.

Also, please note that the submission of an invention disclosure to OTL is not the same as filing a provisional patent application and it does not protect  your invention in the case of an enabling public disclosure.  OTL, with your assistance, will develop an appropriate filing strategy based on the specifics of your invention disclosure.

The University-Industry Demonstration Partnership (UIDP) at the National Academy of Science and the National Council of Entrepreneurial Tech Transfer are hosting a webinar titled “Research Funding Programs at the National Insitute of Standards and Technology” on Wednesday, January 20th at 4:00 PM EST.
