The Industry Contracting Office is responsible for managing all of the industry-sponsored research on Georgia Tech’s campus, and they function as the primary channel through which Georgia Tech’s industry collaborators contact a faculty or student researcher to make a formal research contract agreement. As your partner, they match your interests and needs with the researcher’s in the administration of the different facets involved in an industry contract, including negotiations of contract terms, research costs, export control, intellectual property matters, proprietary rights, legal issues, and material transfer and disclosure agreements.
The Industry Contracting and Technology Licensing offices work together to ensure that industry partnerships are concordant with Georgia Tech’s missions of teaching, research, and public service. All industrial-sponsored research projects must maintain a balance between Georgia Tech’s pursuit of research as an integral part of the educational process and the industry and government partner’s search for useful knowledge to be applied towards the development of products, processes, and services.
When discussing with a sponsor the disposition of intellectual property that may result during the performance of a research project, it is important to work directly with your contracting officer. If needed, the contracting officer will coordinate with OTL to assist in drafting appropriate intellectual property language for the research contract.
