- Intellectual Property Policy - Activities of the Institute’s faculty, staff and students regularly result in intellectual property that’s development was aided in whole or in part through the use of the Institute’s resources. The Board of Regents has, by contract, granted rights to intellectual property created at the Institute to GTRC. The Institute’s Intellectual Property Policy can be found in Section 50 of the Faculty Handbook as well as for students in the General Catalog and Student Handbook.
- Conflict of Interest Policy - Nearly every licensing arrangement will have the potential for conflict of interest. In an effort to diligently protect and maintain the campus’ and general public’s trust in the commercialization process, GTRC has implemented its own conflict of interest declaration procedure in addition to that required by the Institute. The Institute’s Conflict of Interest Policy can be found in Section 38 of the Faculty Handbook.
- Internal Revenue Procedure 2007-47 - The requirement to seek fair market value for a technology in the commercialization of research results encompasses a variety of regulations including, but not limited to, Revenue Procedure 2007-47. While maintaining flexibility in both licensing terms and the structure of a license, GTRC strives to negotiate the financial terms on a fair and reasonable basis for both parties.
- Export Control - Research is a global endeavor and international experiences and opportunities are vital in preparing Georgia Tech’s students to become leaders who meet the challenges of the future. It is sometimes challenging to conduct these programs in compliance with complex laws and regulations that change frequently. Because you, as an individual, and Georgia Tech can be held liable for improperly transferring controlled technology it is important that you review these federal requirements. An export can occur while transferring material outside the United States, exchanging information under a proprietary information agreement, or licensing technology to a non-domestic entity. During the commercialization process, and working through the staff of OTL, it is important to provide the Office of Compliance with timely information so that an accurate determination can be made. Additional information about export control and the Institute’s process can be found on the Export Control website.
